Progress on Snowsport Modernisation

The Home Nation Governing Bodies for Snowsports in England, Scotland and Wales met on 7 December '06 to consider how best to build on the good work carried out in the name of modernisation over the last two years. The organisations share a common desire to establish a more effective and efficient organisation and governance of the sport across the UK. This new era will see coordination of activities and functions, and at the same time, encouraging and maintaining local management of programmes where appropriate.

The Chairmen and Senior Executives of Snowsport England, Scotland and Wales have agreed to pursue the following two priority areas building on the foundations created through the modernisation proposals. It was also agreed that SnowsportGB must play an active role in moving forward with the Home Nations, across all areas.

UK Coach Awards Scheme - It is the intention of the Home Nations to implement a centrally coordinated UK Coach Awards Scheme from local club level instructor training to the development of high performance coaches. Plans will be drawn up in the next three months with a view to commence implementation of a new UK scheme by December 2007.

UK Membership Registration Scheme - It is the intention of the Home Nations to implement a centrally coordinated UK Registration Scheme to encompass Coaches, Instructors, Leaders, Competitors (from minis/bairns to FIS and masters) and Officials. This would make use of modern systems and technology to enhance operational efficiency.

The Senior Executives of the governing bodies and the federation will draw up action plans to consider the scope and implementation of the above proposals. We believe that it would be valuable to involve our partners in looking at these proposals, to ensure that the projects are UK wide, coordinated and integrated into or compliment existing schemes.

The Home Nations recognise their responsibilities for supporting and assisting with the development of the federation of the home nations (SnowsportGB). The Home Nations will, through open dialogue, consider how to improve communications with SnowsportGB to bring the broader membership closer to the federation and understand each others roles. We believe that one of the principle aims of modernisation must be to ensure that the sport is coordinated at all levels throughout the UK to enable all participants to realise their potential.

Following the development of the two priority areas, the following will be addressed in making further progress. Common UK Child Protection Policy Insurance UK marketing portfolio/menu, Commercial opportunities & Sponsorship Shared mailing lists Regular meetings of the governing body and federation senior executives will drive this process forward, reporting to their elected boards on progress made.
