INNTRAVEL SPONSORS CROSS COUNTRY SKI GB TEAM
Inntravel, an award winning tour operator that has been offering cross country ski holidays to Europe for 23 years, has confirmed its sponsorship of the British Nordic Ski Team, the international competitive team for cross country skiing in Great Britain, which is run on a voluntary basis. The sponsorship is particularly welcome as the Team currently receives no government or lottery monies, being funded directly by the athletes themselves.
Inntravel s sponsorship contribution will buy much needed two way radios that will aid the training of the Team. From their Norwegian autumn base in Sjsujoen, Norway, where Inntravel already offers holidays, the Team currently runs the World Championship, World Cup, World Junior Championship, Junior Team and Youth Olympic Team on behalf of Snowsport GB, the British National Governing Body of snowsports.
Welcoming the contribution made by Inntravel to assist in the purchase of essential radio communication equipment for coaches and athletes, George Gabriel, Nordic Director, SSGB, said, "Inntravel s involvement in cross county skiing holidays and their support to the team makes for a natural alliance between popular and competitive Nordic skiing. Many squad and team athletes began their skiing careers with parents and families on winter snow holidays in resorts around Europe. Inntravel s continuing commitment to arranging winter holidays on an independent basis should provide young skiers with the opportunity to get a taster of the enjoyment to be gained from winter sports."
As a tour operator specialising in walking and cycling holidays as well as skiing, their sponsorship initiative is a particularly neat fit. Inntravel s holidays not only provide plenty of choice for first time cross country skiers to get started and gain in confidence, whatever their age, but also much for experienced skiers who seek out more challenging conditions. Marketing manager, Inntravel, Steve Jack, said, "We are delighted to be sponsoring the team. It s a particularly exciting time in the run up to the 2010 Olympics and it will be great to have a combined presence at various events, among them the British Championships, some events within the GB Roller Ski Race Series 2009 and the Huntly Ski Club in Aberdeenshire, where the squad have a base.
