Welcome to the first newsletter from this year's Alpine Championships being held again in the Italian town of Bormio.
' The team are fully in resort and are busy preparing for the first FIS event, a day/night slalom, which begins on Sunday at 13.20 on the Stelvio World Cup Piste. Refreshments will be available in the finish for racers, officials and spectators during the second run. The Gondola will remain open until midnight with the restaurant at the top being open so that races unable to take their normal evening meal will be able to eat there. The floodlights on the Stevlio piste will also remain on until late.
. Snow conditions are excellent, possibly the best in 20 years, with ample deposits and a firm piste. The weather is cold but clear and the forecast for the week ahead is cold with further light snow. .
The racing programme is anticipated to go ahead as advertised and entries are the highest for years. .
In 2009 we are holding a Ski Cross race, with a training day, in addition to the normal races and all are looking forward to an exciting and busy week. Training will take place on Wednesday and with the race on Thursday. .
It is hoped to issue further news, daily, with links to the race results. .
Results will be posted on www.britski.org and http://www.snowsportengland.org.uk/ .
